| Majorca 2005:
Ver is ze big fellow viv ze dirty bike? Like the Cippolini-less Giro, this year's Majorca trip was missing something. Has Southport's Jackie Durand has followed the example set by Super Mario and left the peloton forever? The master(?) of the long futile attack failed to appear this year, and it has to be said that the event was much less entertaining as a result. Once the word got around amongst the locals, roadside crowds were much smaller, and it was easier to get coffee in the Village Depart. The Germans in the hotel were curious, and it must be said, a little disrespectful. If if truth be told the Krauts were absolutely devastated because the only Englishman they have ever passed since 2001 was absent from the 2005 event. Amongst the English the term "southern jessie" was used more than once. Never by me I hasten to add, personally I think it is a little harsh. Once a man has had enough, then he has had enough, and respect should be the order of the day. This year we had a new format, an early afternoon arrival at the hotel allowed a first afternoon prologue to Alcudia.
