Riders Ready for the off in the Mold mountain bike challenge

TheLiam Killeen  and Oli Beckingsale in an England one-two in the Commonwealth Games mountain biking.
The 23-year-old, who won bronze in Manchester four years ago, struggled in the early part of the race, falling 90 seconds behind leader Chris Jongewaard.
But he reeled the Australian in on the penultimate lap and pulled clear in the dying stages to win by 15 seconds.

In the National Trophy cyclo cross event in the historic Pitville Park in Cheltenham Jonny McEvoy of the Southport base Kinesis racing team finished third in the Junior event while Sue Thomas was second in the women’s race.


 


Sam Thompson (above) of the local Team Kinesis cycle racing team rode his first international mountain bike race in Cyprus and rode to an excellent victory against opposition from all over Europe.
Junior rider Sam who is from Hesketh Bank not only won the junior race but also finished second in the senior race, being beaten by Mehmet Sevnic of the Turkish national team.
This finished an excellent season for Sam which culminated in him finishing second overall in the national junior mountain bike series and provides him with confidence for the 2006 season in which he will ride in the Elite category.


Mountain Bike Report.The locally sponsored Usave Mountain Bike Team have had some excellent results over the past weeks with junior rider Sam Thompson and schoolboy Keir Mckenna having the lion’s share of them.
At the National Championships in Scotland youngster Mckenna came away with the Gold medal when he won the youth cross country event.
The week before this at the wet and technical Aberfoylie circuit Sam rode clear on the two mile climb to ride the rest of the race alone and finish a clear winner.
In the third round of the Midlands series in Sheffield Sam rode away from his rivals for another clear win and to the top of the British rankings.
Keir Mckenna finished second in the youth race despite an early race crash in once again very wet conditions.
Chris Truett rode into fourth place in the Masters race and Giles Brett was fifth in the Elite race.
